Some people think it's holding on that makes one strong - sometimes it's letting go.

Apparently this morning, some guy was carjacked, and in the process, he got stabbed in the ribs and in the throat. The amazing thing is that he survived, so that's well and good. But i feel bad for the guy, losing his car and almost losing his life.
Now, why would someone do shit like this to another person? Could anybody be that desperate? Frankly, in australia i don't think so.
So why? Nobody knows. Its the same pieces of trash encountered at boxhill station who threaten people for food. Maybe if they would lay off the drugs and alcohol, they would have enough money to eat. Or put a bullet in their own heads, so they won't have to spend a cent again.
Anyway, the stabbings had occured about 600kms from melbourne, near the southeastern border of nsw, mildura. So that's not much of a concern for us melbournians.
But, an indian national was jailed 13 years for rape of a woman, a little closer to home this time. He raped a student from melbourne uni in june 09.
Makes you wonder about the safety in melbourne.

I learnt that gossip is good. It entertains people and gives people something to talk about. I don't mind if people talk bad about me and spread rumours about me, as long as i get to do the same about them.
But, whatever you do, DO NOT FUCKING TEACH ME HOW TO COOK MY STEAK.
End rant.
Keep this in mind the next time you are about to repeat a rumour or spread gossip.
In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom.
One day an acquaintance ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about Diogenes?"
"Wait a moment," Socrates replied, "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."
'Triple filter?" asked the acquaintance.
"That's right," Socrates continued, "Before you talk to me about Diogenes let's take a moment to filter what you're going to say.
The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you areabout to tell me is true?"
"No," the man said, "Actually I just heard about it."
"All right," said Socrates, "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about Diogenes something good?"
"No, on the contrary..."
"So," Socrates continued, "You want to tell me something about Diogenes that may be bad, even though you're not certain it's true?"
The man shrugged, a little embarrassed. Socrates continued, "You may still pass the test though, because there is a third filter, the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about Diogenes going to be useful to me?"
"No, not really."
"Well," concluded Socrates, "If what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even useful, why tell it to me or anyone at all?"
The man was bewildered and ashamed. This is an example of why Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.
It also explains why Socrates never found out that Diogenes was shagging his wife.

So within 2 days, we caught Iron Man 2 and Ip Man 2. They were both good, and I did like both movies. But Iron Man 2 felt a little rushed throughout the movie. Whiplash was too easily defeated and it didn't seem like much of a challenge to Iron Man and War Machine. They just blasted whiplash and he was taken out, the fight probably lasted 1minute.

Within the past 2 weeks, we (the girlf and i) have caught 3 movies. Date Night, Kick-ass and Clash of the Titans. I'll give a review on each of them from memory.
Date Night:
This is a typical romance comedy, which isnt a bad thing. Why ruin a formula that works? The premise is a married couple whose lives have gotten boring and they steal a table from a couple only to get chased around the city by a gang and making the audience laugh. The show wasn't exactly laugh till you cry, but it was good humour.
There is one notable scene, which was the boat scene, which was hilarious!
And why should you catch the show? Because, there's James Franco, and there's an R8 that gets wrecked. Those 2 points are more than enough. So go catch it if you haven't.
Kick-ass:
The show is about this dude who isn't really anybody in school try and be a superhero without any real skills or powers. He's slightly successful until he gets noticed by 2 other masked vigilantes and subsequently by the city gang boss.
The show's really dark, but with great performances by Nicholas Cage and that 12 year old girl. Its as awesome as it can get. The fights are nicely choreographed and i'd watch it again when it comes out on dvd.
Clash of the Titans:
Centres around a greek demigod dude called Perseus and the usual greek god suspects, Zeus and friends with fiends like medusa and the kraken.
So this dude goes on a journey to avenge his foster family, falls in love with a rather hot greek chick, kills monsters and then finally banishing Hades back into the underworld.
Doesn't seem like much, but the whole show is a visual feast! Everything moves so fluidly. And compared to "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief", its less of a butcher fest by Hollywood.
Why you should catch it if you haven't? The pegasus' (pegasi for plural?) make it seem like the main character is on shrooms the entire time, with references to Harold and Kumar.
I'm looking forward to Iron Man so much, only 9 more days left!

You've got litter on the streets such as cans and paper/plastic bags and wrappers and other unwanted refuse that people discard. And that includes people.
There are 4 or 5 homeless people that come by my workplace, out of that 4 or 5, 1 is an asshole. He never has cash for anything, and he expects to be given food for free. He hasn't come around for awhile now, which is a good thing, since i always have to suppress the urge to bash his cocky debt ridden face in. The other homeless that come by can, surprisingly, pay for their shit.
Then now there are the tiprats and skanks that prowl the area. Youing girls around 15 or 16 pretending to be stranded and asking for money to go home, or begging for drinks citing thirst but refusing water. Its weird isnt it, that they can afford cigarettes but cannot afford to go home.
And finally, the bogan male, the counterpart of the tiprat, acting like punks, probably hiding a blade and generally causing trouble. Someone ought to beat the shit out of them, but i'm no kick-ass, so i'll leave that to someone else.

Having a part time job is far from lucrative but having the spare cash is a great help most of the time. Being able to afford that extended stay at lakes entrance, and stuff like that. And uni life seems to be less hectic than that hell hole called foundation studies. Even though uni is, in a way, tougher.
Time management is easy, as work is flexible, i can do mornings, then go to school in the afternoon, or vice versa, pretty cool that my job's like that.
And there are the perks, such as free flow fries, might be a one way street to obesity, but i'm controlling myself. And food that isnt sold can be taken home to munch on. The girlfriend loves them fried wings, so most of the time, there are 2 that aren't sold.
And the biggest perk of all should probably be the proximity of this place to home, its a 10min bus ride, that's not considering the wait, which is pretty cool. I could walk home if i wanted to, that's if i wanted to, i'm not usually that crazy.
And so, now i'm at work, i'm functioning less than usual because i'm lacking in sleep, but its alright because i'm hardly busy right now. Things will pick up in an hour or so, but all i'm doing is sitting around.
So what exactly does my job consist of? I man the snackbar, i deep fry stuff, i collect money, i sell drinks, and function like the old indian dude at the mamashop in a singaporean context.
There are drawbacks of course, like getting spluttered by hot oil and being bored now, but i take home 10/hour, and being 10mins away from home, that's not a bad deal, considering the fact that i earn at least double what most part timers get in singapore, and i do close to nothing.
And now, i'm slightly less bored, so i'll open a can of coke, and chill out for a bit.

The girlfriend's dad has a peculiar definition of half boiled eggs going on in his mind. He thinks half boiled eggs have solid pieces in them, solid hard boiled egg pieces in them. He insists that's the way coffeeshops in singapore does them. I thought differently, but who am i to argue.
My standard of perfect half boiled eggs would be that the whites have become opaque, but still runny, with little or no clear whites to be seen. Giving a fluffy appearance.
So my dream goes like this...
I was going on about my daily routine, which involves waking up, washing up, and preparing my tea and eggs. But the eggs wouldn't come out right, time didn't affect it. No matter how long i steeped the eggs in boiling water, they always came out the same, as per uncle's weird definition of half boiled eggs.
I tried 5 mins, 3mins, and even 1 min, they all came out the same. I was devastated.
That was the bad dream. Yes, i fear not being able to do proper half boiled eggs.
